Mamasons Espesyal Flavours: 2022 Wrapped Up!

Each year at Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream, we try to create and elevate Filipino Ice Cream that rolls around London and our fans beyond London. This year 2022 Espesyal Flavour of the Month was no different. But this year, as always, we took our Espesyal range a step further with some old favourites to new, exciting flavours. 

The special ice cream flavours of the month is a celebration of the new month and different events that happened all around the year. Here’s a round-up of all the flavours we’ve done:

 

Vegan Ice Cream in London

Vegan Ube 

In the beginning of this year, we wanted to challenge ourselves by creating an existing flavour on our menu as a vegan version. A lot of our flavours in all our Mamasons site are dairy-based particularly our best-seller, Ube Ice Cream. There was no better way to celebrate Veganuary than taking this Mamasons staple, the vegan version. 

 

 

What is Ube Ice Cream?

Ube ice cream is a type of ice cream that is made with ube, a purple yam that is commonly used in Filipino cuisine. We experimented with our vegan ube ice cream by using a coconut based. 

If you're looking for a unique and tasty treat, red bean ice cream might just be the perfect dessert for you. This creamy, sweet, and slightly nutty flavour is a staple in many Asian cuisines and has gained popularity in other parts of the world as well.

 

Ice Cream for Valentines

In February, we had a great time welcoming the Year of the Tiger, which led us to bringing back a Mamasons Espesyal flavour, Red Bean! 

 

 

Red Bean Ice Cream

Our Red bean ice cream have a sweet, nutty flavor and a soft, creamy texture, which makes them well suited for use in our espesyal flavour for the month of February.

For the Valentines weekend, we also brought one of our favourite Mamasons espesyal, the Red Velvet Bilog. 

 

Avocado Ice Cream

For the month of March, we wanted to make a Filipino classic, Avocado Ice Cream! Avocado ice cream has a creamy and slightly savoury flavour that is balanced out by the sweetness of the sugar.

 

 

 

It was a month for a great dessert for anyone who loves avocado or is looking for a healthier alternative to traditional ice cream. Will it make another appearance in 2023? Maybe.

 

Lychee & Raspberry Ice Cream

For Easter, we took Lychee and Raspberry to be our Espesyal flavour for the month of April.

 

 

Lychee and raspberry is a refreshing and fruity combination that makes for a delicious ice cream flavour. This sweet and creamy treat was the perfect starter for the early heat of spring day!

 

Melon Ice Cream

After Easter, we took May by storm by creating a delicious Melon Ice Cream to all of our sites. Using cantaloupe melon, we wanted to create a refreshing and fruity treat for May!

 

 

The sweet and refreshing taste of melon combined with the creamy texture of ice cream is a popular combination for many people. Additionally, melon ice cream is often made with natural ingredients, which may make it appealing to those looking for healthier dessert options.

 

Buko Pandan Ice Cream

One of our most popular espesyal flavours that we wanted to bring back was our Buko Pandan Ice Cream.

 

 

Pandan is a tropical plant that is native to Southeast Asia. The leaves of the pandan plant have a distinctive, sweet, and fragrant aroma that is often used to flavour a variety of dishes, including desserts, beverages, and savoury dishes.

They are often used in Southeast Asian cuisine to add flavour and aroma to dishes such as rice, noodles, and desserts.

 

Mango Float Ice Cream 

Mango float is a popular dessert in the Philippines. It is made by layering sliced mangoes and whipped cream on top of a base of ladyfingers (small, thin, and crisp Italian biscuits) or sponge cake. The perfect dessert to make into an ice cream!

 

 

Mango float is often served as a dessert at parties and celebrations, and it is a favourite treat among many people in the Philippines. The combination of sweet, juicy mangoes and rich, creamy whipped cream creates a delicious and refreshing dessert that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It was so popular this year that we didn't just make it as our July Espesyal flavour of the month - but also for the month of August.

 

Ube & Matcha Ice Cream

Imagine combining a Filipino and Japanese classic? Move over summer, we welcomed the autumn season of 2022 with our Ube & Matcha Ice Cream

 

 

What is Matcha?

Matcha is a type of green tea that has been gaining popularity in recent years. It is made from finely ground green tea leaves and has a unique flavor and health benefits. Matcha is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of recipes, from lattes to desserts. In this blog post, we'll explore the history and health benefits of matcha, as well as some delicious recipes you can make with it.

Pumpkin Chai Ice Cream

We then approached the autumn season by bringing an Autumnal classic flavour through Pumpkin Chai Ice Cream into our stores. The combination of sweet pumpkin and warming chai spices creates a rich and comforting flavour that is perfect for the cooler months.

Pumpkin chai ice cream is a type of ice cream that is flavoured with pumpkin and chai spices. Chai spices are a blend of aromatic spices that are commonly used in Indian cuisine, and they often include cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and black pepper. Toffee Apple Ice Cream

We brought out something special for the Halloween Weekend in October through our red bilog offering - that we decided to continue for the month.

For the month of November, we extended Toffee Apple Ice Cream. The offee apple is a type of sweet treat that consists of an apple that is coated in a layer of hard, caramelised toffee.

Durian Ice Cream

For our last Ice Cream flavour of the month, we wanted to bring something synonymous flavour in Southeast Asia. We thought of Durian!

We wanted to share our newest ice cream flavour to as many people as possible so we made it available in all three Mamasons branches spread across London!
