Opening a whole new branch hasn’t stopped the Mamasons crew from having a chat! Last week we welcomed the team from Monocle to our store. Big boss kuya Omar had an interview for the menu, monocle’s food-based radio show. Check it out if you want to learn about how dirty ice cream got its name, the inspiration for Mamasons, and the struggles of opening a one-of-a-kind business.

The radio show is a bit of an odd one, in a good way (kind of like ube). In a time where radio shows are seeing less and less attention, Monocle boasts 1 million listeners a week. Like us, the radio show is London-based, but focuses on exposing other cultures to its listeners. When they heard that Europe’s only Filipino ice cream parlour was going to become Chinatown’s first Filipino business, they reached out to learn more about what made us special.

Thanks to Monocle for getting in touch - hopefully this won’t be the last time we see each other!

Tune in to the interview here.
